Reading tools

Let the words
meet the reader.

Keep your content. Give every visitor more room to read it in a way that feels comfortable.

Text that can grow with the reader

AbleBrowse offers larger text settings at 130%, 170%, and 200%. Visitors can move through the settings from the toolbar and return to the original size at any time. The adjustment affects the website’s text, rather than opening a separate reading sample.

Someone checking a service description on a small screen may need a different setting from someone reading the same page on a large monitor. Let the visitor decide. Keep ordinary browser zoom available too, and check the underlying page at enlarged sizes so buttons and navigation remain usable.

A choice of reading fonts

The Font control cycles between the website’s default type, sans serif, serif, monospace, and the supplied Dyslexic reading font. These are choices for individual comfort, not a claim that one typeface is right for every reader or treats a reading difficulty.

The reading font is delivered with the installation. It does not require the visitor to have that font installed on their computer. AbleBrowse preserves the website’s original presentation so the visitor can reset their choice.

Space to follow the sentence

Spacing increases the room around text. On a dense article or information page, that can make it easier to distinguish words and follow a line. This works best when the page itself uses flexible layouts: a fixed-height text box should not hide the extra room a visitor asks for.

Our own website starts with readable text sizes. The toolbar adds choice on top of that foundation; readers should not have to find a setting before they can understand a page.

Keep your place

The reading guide adds a horizontal line that follows the pointer. The reading window shades the space above and below a band of content. Visitors can use either tool, combine them, or turn them off while keeping their text and font preferences.

For another way to work through a page, read-aloud tools use available local device voices. For a route through a long page, Page structure lists its headings and landmarks.
