Reading assistance

Another way to read.
Another way to understand.

Listen to a page, work with a selected passage, or use reading assistance where your browser supports it.

Read aloud with local device voices

AbleBrowse uses available local speech voices on the visitor’s device. Visitors can read the page or a selected passage, choose a local voice, adjust speed, and pause, resume, or stop. Word highlighting depends on the voice and browser’s support for speech events.

This is a reading aid, not a replacement for a screen reader. A screen reader also communicates controls, states, document structure, and interactive changes. Your website still needs accessible markup and working keyboard interactions.

Translation where the browser supports it

The translation controls use an on-device browser model. Visitors select source and target languages, then translate a selection or visible page text. Forms and hidden content are excluded from whole-page translation, and Restore original text returns the translated content to its prior wording.

Support varies by browser, device, language pair, and model availability. A model download may be needed. When translation cannot run, the toolbar explains the problem rather than substituting a pretend result. Important instructions should be reviewed in each language you officially support.

Summaries with a clear description of how they were made

When a supported on-device summarizer is available, AbleBrowse can create a generated summary. When it is not, the product can select sentences from the original text to produce an extractive summary. The result identifies which approach was used.

Summaries can omit details. Readers should check the original before acting on an instruction, a condition, a warning, or a number. Selecting a focused passage often gives a more useful result than summarizing an entire page with unrelated sections.

Simpler wording without hidden promises

Supported on-device language models can suggest a rewrite. Where that capability is unavailable, AbleBrowse can make a limited set of basic word substitutions and labels that fallback clearly. It does not certify plain-language accuracy or guarantee that a rewrite preserves every nuance.

The toolbar itself offers English, Spanish, French, and German labels. Changing toolbar language is separate from translating the website’s content. A visitor can choose their preferred interface even when their browser cannot translate a page.
